Day One: From Candy to Confidence
Share
Starting something new is rarely glamorous. It’s not polished or perfect. It’s uncomfortable, awkward, and sometimes downright scary. But it’s also where growth begins — and I promised to take you along for the good, the bad, and the messy.
So here’s what happened...
First, I got my tools together:
Notary stamp, Journal, Business cards, and Nerves…
Then, on a quick trip to the dollar store, I spotted individually wrapped Lifesaver candies. And suddenly it hit me — what if I attached one to each card and said,
“Let me be your lifesaver! I’m here to serve all your notary needs.”
Yes, it was a little cheesy. Yes, I laughed at myself. But I knew I needed to do something that would make people smile and remember me — and it worked.
🚗 I hit the streets.
I drove down my local route, stopping at 20 businesses I thought might need notary services — banks, medical offices, ethnic stores, small business centers.
Out of those: I handed out cards to 15 places, had meaningful conversations at 5, and got my first yes from someone I already knew — she not only took my card but offered to display it and refer me to others. 🙌
🎥 Why this matters:
This wasn’t about instant success. This was about taking the first faithful step, even while nervous and unsure. I posted my video even though I was embarrassed (you’ll see me hiding behind sunglasses), but I knew I had to start somewhere.
I reminded myself:
You can’t grow what you never plant.
This blog, this channel, this business — they’re all seedlings. But God waters what we surrender.

If you’re just starting something too, I hope this encourages you to take your first imperfect step. Don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Start with what you have. Even if it’s just candy and courage.
